Hey all,
I know I've been a little scarce lately with the number of posts but again...that's life I suppose. So, I was going to make a video of this beauty of an antique but I just can't seem to make one at the right time (meaning, when I have makeup on and my hair is done, which is very rare nowadays). Therefore, I'm just going to make this blog post about it including a short video of me cleaning it before.
So, I found this radio at an antique shop in downtown Lancaster called "The Shops on Main" which, in my opinion, is the best one I've been to because it has genuine antique and vintage things in it. Additionally, it isn't overcrowded unlike some other thrift and/or antique shops you may find and go into where you are swallowed in the objects around you. There was a VARIETY of old and antique items that truly piqued my interest but of course some items were out of my budget so I kept it moving until I saw something I really loved. As my mom and myself pushing Zaeven walked, the radio definitely stood out to me. It's so funny because I don't even listen to the radio but the aesthetic of it is AMAZING; it is a light, pale pink with what used to be shiny gold knobs and buttons. The numbers showed a vintage type face and was also expressed in a dull gold on the face of the clock and on the brand name "Westinghouse". It truly has the retro and vintage effect which is definitely me. I also follow a home decorator on Instagram who has really inspired me from how she has decorated her home.
I'm actually not sure how old this radio is but I'm going to assume around the 1950's. I've tried looking it up and can't find the exact radio unfortunately.
The history of this brand Westinghouse:
Formed in the 1920's as Westinghouse Radio Stations, Inc in Pittsburgh, PA
Westinghouse founded Radio Corporation of America and eventually established NBC (National Broadcasting Company) which was the first radio network in the United States
In the 1940's, they expanded to FM and TV stations but was unsuccessful in the FM station and was rid of during the 1950s
They then became Westinghouse Broadcasting and Cable, Inc.
In the 1970s, they then had an interest in tools for radio sales and buying and promoted its "New Math Calculator"
In 1997, they changed its name to CBS Corporation due to them merging and moved its headquarters to New York
Super love my cool new radio and I can't wait to put it up somewhere in the house. I promise my next find will be in video form on my new YouTube channel...so make sure you are on the lookout!
