The Great Crystal Dive

Hey all!

So yesterday was one of the best day's I've had in my life because my mom and I went to our very first crystal dig and dive in Abbeville, South Carolina called The Diamond Hill; which was only about 2.5 hours from us. The whole trip was a big and unique experience and I loved every single moment of it from the start to finish, therefore, I want to share the experience with you all.

To begin with, we woke up at the crack of dawn which was like 6:30 AM and left around 7:15ish and that is the earliest you will EVER get me up if not required. So, we were both dragging ass and Mom lives in the countryside so there was no close coffee shop on the way. We eventually stopped at Starbucks which the closest one was like an hour away (of course) and it was inside of a grocery store (UGH). We got in line and first of all, none of them had no idea what they were doing which was very nerve wracking so I kept my drink simple. They then tell me that they are out of the size I usually get and don't have lids. But I have to give them points because my drink wasn't terrible and I didn't really care because I needed something to wake up and so did Mom.

From that point, we were about an hour away from our destination and I got more and more excited as we got closer. Sidenote: we always put our navigational route to avoid highways because we love to adventure and explore and see what we can find on the side plus who likes to just look at the road and other cars? BORING. Anyways, along one of the roads we were on, we saw roadkill but this wasn't just any raccoon or possum roadkill...this was a WHOLE ARMADILLO. Now, I know a lot of you won't believe me because an armadillo in South Carolina? It sounds absurd but I swear it was and unfortunately, we didn't stop to get a picture to prove it but my mom is my witness. It was quite sad and I felt very bad for the little guy but we kept on trucking because it had already been dead. By the way, my mom really thought it might have been someone's pet that got loose LOL.

As we kept on going, our conversation (as always) was pure hilariousness's. Some of you might have already saw the conversation on Facebook but my mom truly thought a "trap house" was somewhere where people get trapped in. I ABOUT DIED of pure laughter; it was one of those pure mom moments and I loved it so much. We were in the middle of the boonies so there was quite a number of houses that looked like they could have been.

The GPS led us to where we needed to be of course but there was no sign or clear place that said you were there. It was a back road surrounded with lush greenery and fresh dirt and rubble underneath our tires and when we turned around the corner, we saw a HUGE plot of land dug out with fresh dirt. It was so deep and wide that I couldn't believe it and it was then I could feel my face light up like a Christmas tree.

Now, it went a lot further than you could see in these pictures but was just truly an incredible feeling to be a part of Earth's ground and feeling the energy radiating it from the raw crystals and rocks. As we approached the site, there was an older gentleman that walked towards us (with no shirt) and immediately wrote down our license plate. Super weird but I understand because the land is most likely is. After, we went straight to our dig site and it took us awhile to find out where we wanted to start digging but we found a spot and just kept moving from there. The dirt was so pure that you could make clay out of it; true, pure, and clean clay. It felt so good to find crystals in the raw way using shovels, picks, and hammers. We found a good spot and just started digging. At first, it was quite difficult to see what were crystals and what were not because they were covered in dirt and the rain didn't help either. It was SO SO hot; I felt like my skin was melting into itself and Mom about had a heat stroke. We also looked like we just had a fight in dry mud (literally). Don't judge our glowing red faces below.

But the outcome was SO worth it...

As you can see, we found a decent number of crystals and I honestly couldn't be happier about the result. I don't know the names for them all yet but when I find out I will come back and caption them all. The best part about all of this is that they came out raw and straight from the ground which makes them so pure and cleansed. We were both happy, excited, and refreshed because this trip did a lot more than just bring crystals home; it gave us a break from life and not to think about the stresses of it.

Now, if you ever want to go, you definitely need to be prepared with the following:

  1. Tools: Pick, Hammer, long nosed screwdriver, and shovel

  2. Gloves

  3. Bucket to put your treasures in

  4. Sunscreen and/or bug spray

  5. Drinks & food

  6. Spray bottle (to clean your beauties afterwards if you're too excited to wait to get home)

  7. Wear sneakers or boots!

  8. Wear activewear or something very comfortable and easy to move around in

Optional: A battery generated fan

I strongly recommend coming to this amazing place found in the side of the road! The greeter may not be the friendliest but the experience is definitely worth it. The costs and more information are on their website: Gemstone Digging Site - Diamond Hill Mine in South Carolina.
