Its Vision Board Timeeee

I think the best way to start off the new year is to create a vision board. A vision board is a either online or physical board of images from magazines and/or the internet that represents the goals you want to achieve. It can have literally anything on it that will inspire you; quotes, pictures, textures...ANYTHING. Personally, vision boards are the best way to be creative and also relieve a LOT of stress...they are definitely one of my favorite things to do. If I could create vision boards everyday, I totally would.

So, there are many different ways you can create one. One of them being physically and hands-on which would require to purchase materials such as: glue or tape, scissors, lots of magazines, and a board (or you can use a sketch book if you want to do multiple pages). Honestly, this is my favorite way of creating a vision board because I can be crafty and I'm usually a hands-on type of person so I love to feel and touch and physically see what I'm doing. But doing it online isn't bad either, especially with the help of Canva which is the best tool to create pretty much anything you want. I'm actually obsessed with it and its many, many uses but in terms of vision board/mood boards; it has lots of different templates/layouts you can use to really express your journey for 2023. However, picking the best layout for your vision board can really impact on how you focus the goals for this year.

Picking The Best Layout

I think layouts are one of the best ways to figure out what kind of images you want to use because of the amount of space you have to use. Personally, I think a horizontal landscape for a vision board is the best because you have more length and use of space to put whatever the hell you want to put on. If you decide to use Canva, really explore all of your options for what style/theme suits you because there is SO much to choose from as you can see. There are multiple ways for you to filter and narrow down the best possible option for your vision board.

However, if you are physically making a vision board then you can decide by simply what you want your images, materials, or whatever you are putting on it to be on. It could be a sketchbook, a poster board, journal, or whatever you want depending on the look/vibe you are going for. You can even use an old book and use the pages as an aesthetic for the background of your materials. Picking a layout is the most essential step in making a vision board and for it to truly be a way for you to accomplish your goals.

Picking Images to Fit Your Goals

You don't want to just pick images that look pretty or fit your personal aesthetic. You want to pick images that truly are going to inspire and motivate you to achieve on what you want to do. Additionally, to have an AMAZING looking vision board, it's important to use images that look professional as well as are able to use without any copyright issues. If you are creating a vision board online, you can use the below websites that allow you to download images for free without any issues:

Both websites have PLENTY to choose from that are professional and free to use. Also, if you are using Canva, they also offer lots of images to use as well, however, more options appear if you have a subscription with them. Again, make sure you look thoroughly to find images that best meet your needs for the new year and goals.

Placing Images

When placing your images, make sure it makes sense to you as well as visible of all aspects of your vision board needs to be noticeable. It can be messy but if you want to make it messy, it's important to make it sense and how it will make you achieve those goals and/or resolutions. Overlapping images is common when creating vision boards, especially online but it's important not to overlap all of the images. This can cut off important parts of the image that really shows what you want to achieve for the year. However, don't stay stagnant; place those images wherever the hell you want to place them! Make them fun, engaging, and even interactive! Make sure you leave spaces where you can add little materials or just some random and fun ideas that will help your vision board stand out. And if you feel that there is too much blank spaces, add some wording or quotes that might inspire you. However, don't use too much wording because it can cause distraction and be too obvious of the vision board. The images should be telling your goals, not the actual wording.

Your Piece

Once you feel confident and happy about it, don't feel like you need to stop and put it away somewhere. Keep working on it...continue to add or remove things that might not align with your goals or what you want to achieve for the year. I think that was my biggest mistake in doing a vision board is not continually working on it but also not having it in a very visible place. Make sure you place your masterpiece where you can easily see and get access to it; physical or online vision board.
